Palworld Mutation Calculator Guide: How Mutated Eggs Work

How Palworld's mutation system picks which Pal a mutated egg hatches, and how to raise your odds of a specific, targeted mutation.

A mutated egg hatches a different Pal than the pair's normal offspring, and which Pal it becomes isn't random across the whole roster — it's determined by a rank band derived from the same parents' breeding power.

How the mutation band is calculated

  1. Take the lower of the two parents' breeding power values.
  2. count = max(1, round(low × 0.1)) — how many ranks are in play
  3. start = round(low × 0.5) + round(diff × 0.4) + 1 — where the band of possible ranks begins

The game rolls one rank inside that band and hatches the eligible Pal nearest to it — so the size of the band, not pure chance across every Pal, decides how predictable your result is.

How to target a specific mutation

Because the band width scales with the lower parent's breeding power, pairing a rare, low-power Pal with something else shrinks the band dramatically — sometimes to a single guaranteed outcome. Changing the second parent shifts where the band starts without widening it, letting you slide the result toward a specific target species.

Per-egg odds are separate from which Pal you get

The roughly 1% (standard cake) or 3% (extravagant cake) chance is only whether an egg mutates at all — a completely separate roll from which species it becomes if it does.
