Mage vs. Shaman in WoW Forever: Trees Compared

How Mage and Shaman's WoW Forever talent trees differ in focus, for players deciding which class to plan a build around.

Both classes cover ranged damage and offer a healing or utility-leaning tree, but their three trees pull in noticeably different directions.

Mage: Arcane, Fire, Frost

Arcane builds around stacking Arcane Blast for escalating damage and burning it off with cooldowns like Arcane Power. Fire leans on Ignite and Combustion to turn critical strikes into sustained burning damage. Frost trades raw damage for control and survivability — Cold Snap, Ice Block, and Ice Barrier make it the most defensively equipped of the three.

Shaman: Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration

Elemental is a ranged caster tree built around Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Lava Burst, with Elemental Fury pushing critical damage. Enhancement is a melee tree centered on Stormstrike and weapon-imbue talents like Elemental Weapons. Restoration is the pure healing tree, built around Healing Wave, Riptide, and totem support like Mana Tide Totem.

The practical difference

Mage's three trees are all ranged-caster variations on the same core toolkit; Shaman's three trees cover three different roles entirely — ranged damage, melee damage, and healing. Picking Shaman commits you to a role in a way picking Mage doesn't.
