"Days until Christmas" is one of the most searched countdown queries every year — and one of the simplest to calculate automatically, since Christmas always falls on the same calendar date. Other holidays need slightly different logic.

Fixed-date holidays

Christmas (December 25), New Year's Day (January 1), Halloween (October 31), Valentine's Day (February 14), and Independence Day (July 4) all fall on the same date every year — finding the next occurrence just means checking whether this year's date has already passed, and using next year's if so.

Floating-date holidays: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) is defined as the fourth Thursday of November — a genuinely different calculation, since the date shifts by several days from year to year depending on which day of the week November 1st falls on. Finding it requires locating the first Thursday of the month, then counting forward three more full weeks.
