Army WHtR vs. the Old Body Fat Percentage Standard
How the Army's waist-to-height ratio standard differs from the older circumference-based body fat percentage method, and why WHtR uses one universal threshold instead of tables.
Both methods use a tape measure, but they arrive at very different numbers through very different math β and it's worth understanding the difference before comparing results between them.

Why a single universal threshold
WHtR's single 0.550 threshold, with no separate tables by sex or age, is a deliberate simplification β one measurement, one calculation, one number to compare against, with less room for lookup-table errors or disputes over which age band applies.
They're not directly comparable
A WHtR value and a body fat percentage are different units measuring related but distinct things β don't expect them to track linearly against each other.
